Angola Here We Come

Posted by Mary Lou on June 20, 2009

As part of the preparation for our trip we are starting this blog so that others can keep up with our experiences this July. I’m posting today to check that we’re actually up and running.

It’s exciting to see our departure date coming closer and closer.  Two weeks from tomorrow we will arrive in Lubango, Angola!

For those of you who aren’t sure exactly what this trip is about, here’s a quick summary. A group of 8 people from St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Thunder Bay are going to Lubango, Angola in Africa. We will work at the mission hospital helping to sort medical supplies that have been waiting in containers to be catalogued so they can be found and used by the medical staff. We will also run a program for children during the annual retreat held for missionaries in the area.

Over the past year we have been planning and preparing. Part of that has been fundraising, which many of you have helped with, and we appreciate your willingness to participate. Most of the preparations have been done, though a few remain, and it’s time to finalize packing lists and get ready to go.

Of course, I am excited that on this journey I will be able to visit with my sister and her husband. We see one another so seldom, and I have never been to her home in Angola in the many many years (over 30) she has been there. What a great God we serve! He gives us opportunities for service and includes in them opportunities for great joy as well.

We fly from Toronto to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Windhoek, Namibia, and Windhoek to Lubango beginning July 2 and finally arriving July 5. I hope to have the chance to update this blog regularly, so check back to see what we’re up to. We’ll be home on July 26 and will let you know when we’re going to have a presentation about the trip.

See you later!
